Got Tension? Get Calcium!
By Kory | February 29, 2008
Everyone knows that calcium plays a role in the development of healthy teeth and bones. Not everyone knows that it is necessary for the contraction of every muscle in the body, including the heart. No calcium, no contraction.
A lack of calcium absorbtion can be the cause of disorders like restless leg syndrome, charlie horses, muscle tension and cramping, constipation, and heart problems (e.g. palpitations).
Calcium also affects the central nervous system. People who are allergic to it (meaning the calcium isn’t doing what it’s supposed to be doing in their system, or it’s not doing it as well), often have insomnia and anxiety. Calcium has a calming affect on the nervous system, so when I have a client complaining of insomnia and/or anxiety, one of the first things I check for and clear is an allergy to calcium.
